Welcome to Monaco Interiors. I thought I’d write my first blog, introducing myself and letting you know a bit about me as a designer, and what my company is all about.
I’ve been working in design for about 18 years now. It’s been a great experience. I get to meet lots of terrific people, who trust me with their homes, and, mostly, let my creative juices flow.
When I first started, I worked as a designer at a small boutique store. It was a terrific introduction into the difference facets of this business. But, as years progressed, I moved to a few more companies, specializing in window treatments, furniture design and eventually renovations.
I started my company in 2001. The goal, when I started, was to be as honest as possible with my clients. Home design and renovations especially can be a very scary thing for homeowners and business alike. You have to trust complete strangers to come into your place of safety, tear it apart and hopefully put it back together in a manner which is both respectful to you and that produces a well-crafted end product.
I have worked with many trades over the years. My trades and client’s trades. I find that establishing trust right of the bat is the best way to start. Once that’s been established, the rest of the project is usually a great experience. Even if there is no kitchen in their home for sometimes up to 6 weeks!
I like my work. It’s hard at times. I wake up at 3am too often, with answers to design dilemmas, with inspiration and occasionally with light-bulb moments.
If you’ve browsed through the site, you’ve realized that I don’t have one particular style. I think that’s because I work with my clients and try to design spaces that they would love, not spaces that will end up in magazines every time. And that gives each client their own personal space, which suits their tastes, budgets and lifestyles. So no signature style here!
On the website, you will also find some profiles of my closest trades, and a links page for businesses I work with on an ongoing basis, that I really trust. Like I said earlier, trust is paramount.
A bit about me? I’m a wife and mom of twins. They are just over 4 now, and have taught me to use every minute of my workday as efficiently as possible, so I can spend lots of mommy time with them. They have also taught me that family life means that white couches are often not a good idea!
I love my work. I love design. I can’t pick a rug for my dining room because I love too many styles, and that’s the life of a designer. We spend far too much time choosing the perfect shade of white. So I have figured out, it’s not that the shoemaker didn’t have time to make his kids those shoes. He couldn’t decide which ones to make!
I hope we get to meet, and that you’ve seen a few things that inspire you here, and I promise to do my best to keep you informed on my ongoing work, and hopefully some fun design tips, facts and trends.
If I can leave you with any advice today, it’s to remember that even if a particular item is popular today, it likely won’t be in a year, so do what you like, not what you think is ‘in’ right now. I mean, you do remember avocado green bathtubs…right?
Have a great day. Be inspired.
